The Cone Beam CT Training Course is first of its kind of much awaited advanced imaging hands on course initiated by Riyadh Elm University for the dental fraternity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Held on 9th and 10th of April 2021 with 12 CME hours as a two days event in An Namuthajiyah Campus of Riyadh Elm University, the course welcomed dental practitioners, specialists, graduates and postgraduate students from various universities and hospitals in the Kingdom.

The CBCT training course was intended to train the dentists in the advanced 3D imaging skills and incorporate their expertise in the daily clinical practice aimed at accuracy in diagnosis offering better treatment planning and prognosis. The course was offered to dental practitioners, undergraduate and postgraduate dental students and specialists especially in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and Diagnostic Oral Sciences, Periodontics, Endodontics, Implantology and other specialties.

Our CTC team had experts Dr. Cristalle Soman from Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Dr. Raed Salma from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ahmad Tawfig from Periodontics and Dr. Ammar Abu Mostafa from Endodontics. The sessions were conducted in two days with Lectures and video demonstrations. On the first day with details on applications, guidelines, anatomical landmarks in CBCT, Operating the software’s and writing a CBCT report. The video demonstrations were present concurrent to each topic for better understanding.

The second day was a complete hand on session to enable participants to use different operating windows and altering slice thickness, optimal sections to analyze specific pathologies and using different tools in CBCT.

In the hands on session, the participants were given exposure to case based problem solving, identification of anatomical landmarks, pathologies in surgery, endodontics, periodontology and hands on practice in nerve mapping and implant planning, ridge assessment which are critical for our daily dental practice.

All participants were encouraged to discuss their queries and the CTC team addressed their concerns during the 2 day sessions, and trained the participants to run the CBCT software and apply it in different specialties. The session concluded with quiz for assessing the learning outcome and with a note of thanks. Certainly, the CTC course were enlightening to all the participants. Certificates were distributed and CPD credit hours were submitted to the SCHS at the end of the course.
