Last May 22, 2012, Tuesday, the Riyadh Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy proudly graduated 144 female students belonging to four of the five different programs RCsDP currently offers in ceremonies fit the purpose. There were 90 graduates in Dentistry; 22 in Pharmacy; 17 graduates in Medical Laboratory Science and 15 graduates in Dental Hygiene.
The graduation ceremonies were hosted by Dr. Hajar Abdo, A faculty member from the College of Pharmacy and Dr. Sarah Mubaraki, an RCsDP alumna from Dentistry-Batch 3 . The ceremonies started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Miss Eman Abdul Rahman, a Pharmacy graduate. This was followed by the students' march led by the alumnae-faculty the likes of whom included Dr. Maleeha Ahmad, Dr. Yasmine Ahmad and Dr. Rawda Al Ghabban, the medical laboratory intern; Miss Buthain Al Harbi and the dentistry undergraduate; Miss Hanan Al Muhaisen. As they marched onto the stage, Prof. Sanna Shafshak, Professor of Periodontics was on hand to greet the graduates. Miss Haya Al Jamea, a medical laboratory intern, assisted Prof. Shafshak in handing the certificates to the graduates who were lovingly cheered on by their mothers and loved ones in the audience.
A short video about RCsDP, its history including that of its academic programs from their inception and their growth and development up to the present time followed the march. The video ended with an acknowledgment of the continuous support extended to higher education by the Custodian of the Holy Mosques, His Highness King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The RCsDP Rector, Prof. Abdullah R. Al Shammery, then gave his speech where he greeted the graduates as well as their families and congratulated them for this mile-stone achievement in their life. He wished them the best in whatever path they intended to take.
A movie that put together as many of the activities of the graduates during their stay in RCsDP years was then projected on the screen. The graduates and everyone else in audience loved the movie as it brought back beautiful and poignant memories of their fruitful and happy years at RCsDP. The movie was prepared by Miss Maram Al Hati, a graduate of dentistry.
The graduates' valedictory address in Arabic was delivered by Miss Shokran Al Ramadan, a Pharmacy graduate, while the English address was delivered by Miss Safia Ba-Bedan, a Dentistry graduate. In their speeches, Misses Shokran and Safia thanked God for allowing them to successfully finish their studies and earn their degrees. They also encouraged their fellow graduates to work hard in their careers. They also thanked Prof. Abdullah Al Shammary and Dean Dr. Saleh Al Shamrani for giving them continuous support and guidance all these years.
Towards the end of the program, Dr. Hana Al Khabbaz, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Immunology, and Chairperson of the Female Graduation Committee, led the graduates in the recitation of the medical oath.
The highlight of the graduation ceremonies was the awarding of Certificates of Honor to the top/honor graduates this academic year.
The success of the graduation event was attributed to the event organizers - Dr. Hana Al Khabbaz, Prof. Sanna Shafshak, Dr. Haneen Al Shukairy, Mrs. Mayyada Basheer, Mrs. Aisha Al Mulla, and Mrs. Taghreed Al Rayes.
Mr. Jay Melgar, Mrs. Ashwaq Al Samhan, Mr. Mohammad Al Ahmari and Mr. Mohana Al Mohana and a host of other people also contributed to the success of the female graduation ceremonies this year.
