At present, esthetic dentistry is one of the fast growing disciplines in the field of dentistry as evidenced by the rapid growth in production of dental cosmetic products, as well as journal articles published and conferences held on the subject.
Last 27 October 2011, Dr. Andrea Ricci, a well-known Italian expert in esthetic dentistry shared his expertise and experience to a number of dentists who attended the first continuing education (CE) course offereing of the International Quintessence Arab Dental Congress (IQADC).
Dr. Ricci lectured on th topic "Updates in Esthetic Treatment Planning", which he divided into modules - Introduction to patient interview and data collection: new methods to document an esthetic case, how to register the interach relationship and horizontal plane of reference, photographic protocol and digital smile design, when is better to keep a natural tooth; when to replace it with an implant?, factors to be evaluated to select the right procedure for the right patient, treatment planning on natural teeth with ideal hard and soft tissue levels - minimally invasive approaches, treatment planning on natural teeth with compromised relationship between "pink and white" - prosthetic compensation vs. reduction of alveolar defect, treatment planning on implants with ideal hard and soft tissue levels - minimally invasive approaches, treatment planning on implants teeth with compromised relationship between "pink and white"- prosthetic compensation vs. reduction of alveolar defect cordiali saluti, and lastly the case discussion for individual participants with emphasis on esthetic treatment planning.
A very lively and enlightening discussion and exchange between Dr. Ricci and his audience specially on specific cases presented by the latter followed the lecture. Dr. Ricci had many expert advice, significant suggestions and recommendations to give to his audience on the cases presented.
Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery, IQADC President and RCsDP Rector, was on hand to thank Dr. Ricci for his valuable and interesting lecture.
Dr. Esam Tashkandi, the IQADC Chairman who warmly welcomed and introduced Dr. Ricci at the beginning of the program, also presented the plaque and token of appreciation to the speaker at the end.
To those who would like to know more about him, Dr. Ricci obtained his Certificate in Advanced Prosthodontics from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, U.S.A. At the moment, he owns one of the leading dental centers in the world. He is the Scientifc Director of Institute of Dental Education and Therapy (IDEAT); an ctive member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED) and an associate member of American Academy of Restorative Dentistry (AARD). He has not only co-authored several papers published in international journals but he has also lectured extensively in Europe, U.S.A and Japan.
The IQADC is a partnership between Quintessence Publishing Company and the Riyadh Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy. Its monthly offerings of continuing education courses covering all dental specialties will lculminate into the annual event, the International Quintessence Dental Arab Congress (IQDAC) which will be held in Riyadh from April 11-13, 2012. This Congress will feature world-renowned international speakers who will tackle the latest developments in dentistry.
