The Saudi Dental Society (SDS) in collaboration with the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) Saudi Arabian Section held its General Assembly Meeting from 10th-13th March 2008 at the Jeddah Hilton Hotel in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The general assembly meeting among the SDS/IADR was held on Tuesday, 11th March 2008 at the Qasr Al Sharq Hall in Jeddah Hilton. The meeting was presided by the IADR Saudi Arabian Section President, Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery. There were twenty-three (23) scientific sessions at which various speakers from USA, Switzerland, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Lebanon, Egypt and different institutions in Saudi Arabia gave excellent presentations which constituted the core of the whole scientific meeting. the opening presentation was a lecture given by Prof. Giovanni Salvi of Switzerland on “immediate Implant Placement: Experimental and Clinical Evidence” and Prof. Dag Orstavick of Norway on “Root filling materials: Changing trends and future hopes”. He was followed by other keynote speakers. The presentations covered various oral health-related topics, new advances in dental practice, and issues on qualitative research. The meeting also offered the opportunity for other participants to present their research in poster presentations. A total of one hundred six (106) abstracts were accepted by the Scientific Committee and presented at the meeting of which sixty-nine (69) were original researches and thirty-seven (37) were posted presentations. 

The continuing education courses were held simultaneously in King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Dentistry Campus and in Jeddah Hilton. It attracted a wide attendance of academicians, clinicians and students. The conference featured ten (10) courses on various scientific topics on orthodontics and preprosthetic treatment, infection prevention and control periodontal plastic surgery, advanced dental technology, nitrous oxide, marketing dental practice, proficiency in endodontics, simulation for larengoscopy, hands on bone grafting and synopsis on basic treatment planning. The conference also offered an extensive exhibition of dental and medical equipments and materials by over forty different companies. 

The meeting was attended by more than 1400 participants and was a success both scientifically and socially with the support of the King Abdulaziz University Administration, IADR members and officers, and the SDS Board members under the able leadership of Prof. Yousef F. Talic. The achievement of this conference proves.
