The 2nd Cone Beam CT Training Course on advanced digital imaging by Riyadh Elm University was conducted on 12th and 13th of November 2021 with 12 CME hours. It was a two-day event in Namuthajiyah Campus of Riyadh Elm University for the dental practitioners, specialists, undergraduates and postgraduate students from various hospitals universities in the Riyadh, Jubail.

The Day 1 of the CBCT training course was conducted by Dr. Cristalle Soman and Dr. Raed Salma. The course gave insight into potential applications of CBCT in diagnosis, treatment  planning, determining the prognosis and the newer advancements in the field including artificial intelligence incorporated with CBCT and customized single day CAD CAM CBCT treatment options. Imaging guidelines from AAOMR and European academy was discussed to follow principles of radiation protection and when to advise a scan, wrapping up with writing a CBCT report. Following the break, a detailed discussion of anatomical landmarks in CBCT and its importance was discussed with focus on clinical importance. All sessions were conducted as interactive sessions with continuous feedback from the audience from their learning experiences and activating their cognitive skills for a better learning experience. The course was welcomed and participated by dental practitioners from private and government sectors, dental interns, undergraduate and postgraduate dental student from Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Periodontics, Endodontics, and specialists from Pediatric Dentistry and Oral Medicine and Radiology. Video links were provided to all participants along with information resources to enhance the hands on experience.

On the 2nd day a complete hands on experience was given to all the participants and session was conducted by Dr. Raed Salma and Dr. Cristalle Soman from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Oral Sciences, Dr. Ahmed Tawfig from Periodontics and Dr. Ammar Abu Mostafa from Endodontics.

Lecture sessions were also conducted by Dr. Ahmad Tawfig and Dr. Ammar Abu Mostafa on the 2nd day with case discussions. The important topics covered in day 1 was the basis to the hands-on session. Participants were guided to install different softwares, to use different operating windows and altering slice thickness, optimal sections to analyze specific pathologies and using different tools in CBCT. The participants were given a real case experience to case based problem solving, identification of anatomical landmarks, pathologies in surgery, endodontics, periodontology and hands on practice in nerve mapping and implant planning, bone density assessment, ridge assessment which are critical for our daily dental practice.

All participants were very enthusiastic and discuss their queries to which the CTC team addressed their concerns. The session concluded with quiz for assessing the learning outcome and with a note of thanks. Indeed, participants were very happy to have had the learning experience. Certainly, the CTC course was enlightening to all the participants to apply in daily dental practice. Certificates were distributed and CPD credit hours were submitted to the SCHS at the end of the course.
